South urban landmarks: These are some historic and interesting locations in south Florida.
Freedom tower-This historic building started its life as the home of the Miami daily news until 1957. In 1962 the building was used to assist Cuban refugees. The center provided resources to Cuban refugees so they could successfully rebuild and start a new life in America.
Ocean drive-This historic strip along the beach is the first thing that comes to mind when someone thinks of Miami. This street is lined with art deco style hotels from the 50’s across from a beautiful palm lined beach park.
Calle ocho-This historic neighborhood is the heart of Cuban culture in Miami. This is an authentic Cuban neighborhood that has stood the test of time. There are a variety of Cuban restaurants and bars in this area that offer a dive into Cubano culture.
Guitar hotel-This hotel has become a staple of south Florida, finishing construction in 2020 this luxury hotel has 638 luxury guestrooms. This hotel is on the hard rock casino campus, so a state-of-the-art casino hall is just below your room. This hotel often has light shows where the entire building lights up and displays patterns, truly a sight to see.
Sawgrass mall-This is the second largest mall in the state with 2.38 million square feet of retail space. This mall is shaped like an alligator and has three separate sections for shopping. The oasis is an outdoor shopping area which features an arcade and IMAX theater. The colonnade is focused on upscale merchandise and feature a variety of luxury stores. And fashion avenue which features casual apparel stores.
Las olas-Las olas is a historic main street that starts in the heart of downtown ft Lauderdale and ends at las olas beach to the east. This street features many upscale and exciting bars and restaurants. Las olas is always a happening place and is a great place to catch some night life.
